Courtney Fowles, M Soc. Sci. Counselling Psychology
I am a New Zealand registered Counselling Psychologist. I completed my studies in South Africa, interning at the Desmond Tutu Trauma Centre. I have since worked in forensic settings and private practice providing mental health services, including psychotherapy and psychometric assessments/reports for a diverse population.
I offer a non-judgmental and safe space where we develop a therapeutic relationship that allows us to explore difficulties with curiosity and compassion. I firmly believe that people have their own innate capacity to heal and working alongside a therapist can help uncover this. Whilst exploring the past is an important part of the process, I balance this with therapeutic resourcing that allows you to feel more grounded and empowered as you go.
I personally work with modalities of therapy that I have tried and tested on myself with transformative results. I am classically trained in psychodynamic therapy, CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) and DBT (Dialectical Behavioural Therapy). My passion for healing is focused on looking at the whole person, this includes not only mind but body. The blending of neuroscience, classical trainings and somatic therapy allow a holistic therapeutic experience. This integrated approach allows me to strategically draw from a range of therapeutic tools that can enable a greater capacity to heal and grow.
These are further modalities I am trained in. I encourage you to explore them and see if it aligns with what you are looking for;
• BWRT (Brain Working Recursive Therapy)
• EMI (Eye Movement Integration)
• MBSR (Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction)
• Somatic Experiencing (In process of training)
My areas of interest;
• Trauma/PSTD
• Anxiety
• Depression
• Phobias
• Grief/Bereavement
