
Georgina Barnes, Bachelor of Science (BSc) Psychology; Master of Science (MSc) Mental Health Studies; Doctorate in Clinical Psychology (DClinPsy)
Dr Georgina (Georgie) Barnes is a Registered Clinical Psychologist and a member of the New Zealand Psychologists Board. She holds a Doctorate Degree in Clinical Psychology and a Masters Degree in Mental Health Studies from King's College London, UK.
Georgie currently works as a Senior Clinical Psychologist and specialises in working with children, young people and families. Prior to moving to New Zealand, Georgie spent two years in Sydney, Australia, leading on child neurodevelopmental assessments in private practice, and supervising masters and doctoral students on the Clinical Psychology Training Programme at the University of Sydney.
Georgie is originally from the UK, and spent many years working in the National Health Service (NHS) providing psychological assessments and interventions to children and adolescents with complex mental health difficulties. Georgie is particularly passionate about working with neurodivergent young people, and is skilled at providing treatment for a wide range of associated mental health presentations, including anxiety, depression and general life difficulties, such as stress and burnout. Her practice is informed by evidence-based approaches, including Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), as well as systemic-level frameworks such as Positive Behaviour Support (PBS). Georgie also has additional training in, and experience of, providing evidence-based parenting interventions such as the Incredible Years and Non-Violent Resistance (NVR) programmes.
Georgie has extensive training, experience and is skilled in providing comprehensive, gold-standard assessments for autism, ADHD, intellectual disability and specific learning disorders (SLD) in children and adolescents.
Georgie has worked as an associate lecturer in the UK and Australia, and has taught and lectured to Masters Students at King’s College London and the University of Sydney. She has also taught to nationwide audiences in the UK, delivering training to clinicians working in inpatient services on how to work therapeutically with neurodivergent children and young people.
In her spare time, Georgie enjoys travelling, camping, walking/hiking, biking, sketching and painting, cooking, reading and going to the gym.
