Bernard Smith, Dip. App. Counselling, Post Grad Cert Counselling (Supervision) MNZAC
Bernard provides counselling and supervision in Westport and Greymouth on the West Coast. He has tertiary and post graduate counselling and clinical supervision qualifications from Nelson Marlborough Institute of Technology and University of Waikato respectively. He has been a member of New Zealand Association of Counsellors since 2005 and is registered with ACC as a provider of treatment for people who have experienced sexual abuse.
His areas of specialisation include treatment for: depression, anxiety, anger management, complex trauma/post-traumatic stress disorder, sexual abuse, relationship issues as well as developmental and behavioural issues in adolescents and adults. Bernard also works in the area of restorative justice in the context of harmful sexual behaviours. He has a particular interest and specialisation in working with men in relation to all of the above.
Bernard offers an integrative approach to his work which includes CBT, Client Centred, Solution Focused and Narrative modalities within a strength based and trauma informed practice framework.
