Peter Johnson, MA (Clin Psych) MNZPsS
Peter has been practising as a clinical psychologist since 1984, and has worked almost exclusively within the ACC system since 2002. In addition to his role as Director he also provides psychological intervention to primarily adults in Nelson and Blenheim. Prior to his current role he enjoyed a varied career in psychology, including an academic career extending over 18 years that involved clinical training and supervision of psychologists in post-graduate clinical programmes. His particular clinical interest now centres on serious injury rehabilitation, including neuro-rehabilitation and persistent pain, with emphasis on resolving debilitating psychological sequelae to traumatic and life-changing injuries. In this context he has developed specific expertise in working with entrenched and complex clinical presentations. He also specialises in couples/relationship therapy. While he has experience and training in various approaches and modalities in clinical psychology, he works specifically from an ecosystemic model. His underlying philosophy is social-constructionist and postmodern, emphasising holistic, culturally informed, and collaborative approaches to therapy.
