Wonita Woolhouse

Wonita Woolhouse, BHSc(OT); PGDip(MNH); Certified Transactional Analyst Psychotherapy; MHealSc(MENH)

My background as an Occupational Therapist has given me more than 20 years of experience working the mental health field, including forensic settings, after initially beginning my career in paediatrics. I have worked in New Zealand as well as spending 5 years working in the United Kingdom where I obtained specialist knowledge and experience with complex trauma, mental health issues, autistic spectrum and other developmental disorders. I have worked in secure psychiatric hospital settings as well as community based settings. Transactional analysis (TA) underpins my way of practicing and working therapeutically as a psychotherapist. Infant developmental theory, attachment and neurosciences contributes significantly to my understanding and approach to working with the clients I see.

I gained additional qualifications in Transactional Analysis in 2016 and with the additional knowledge, skills and training in PTSD/Trauma, I began working with ACC clients in 2017 and now complete the Supported Assessments as well as therapy for referred clients. I take pride in ensuring I maintain professional development and keep up to date with current research and literature. I am especially interested in the neurological impact and manifestations of significant trauma/abuse and violence, attachment, somatic processes and sensory processing/modulation.

In 2020 I completed my Masters in Health Sciences endorsed in mental health with my dissertation research focused on evaluating what is effective when working with self-disgust emerging from sexual trauma.

When I'm not working, I am a busy wife and mother to my 11 year old daughter as well as a self-confessed gym junkie with just a hint of creativity through drawing and painting.
